Who We Are
The East African Institute for Health Equity Research and Innovation (EAHERI) is a Ugandan not-for-profit health research and implementation institute established to generate high-quality evidence, strengthen health systems, and advance equitable access to healthcare through research, innovation, and strategic partnerships.
Our Founding Focus
EAHERI was founded with a primary focus on maternal, newborn and child health, recognizing the urgent need for locally generated evidence to improve the health and wellbeing of mothers, children, and families.
Our Growth Over Time
Over time, the Institute has expanded its scope in response to emerging public health priorities, addressing persistent health inequities affecting women, adolescents, children, and other underserved populations.
Where We Stand Today
Today, EAHERI integrates epidemiology, implementation science, digital health, community engagement, and capacity strengthening to translate research into practical, evidence-based solutions that improve population health. Guided by a multidisciplinary team of researchers, clinicians, epidemiologists, statisticians, social and behavioral scientists, data scientists, and public health practitioners, the Institute collaborates with national and international partners to design, implement, and evaluate innovative programs across maternal, newborn and child health, HIV and other infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, mental health, gender equality, health systems strengthening, and community health.
